GAACC wanted to recreate an authentic night market experience for Central Texas. So we partnered with the City of Austin Soul-y Austin Program and the North Lamar International Business District to host the first ever Asian Eats Night Market at the St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. We envisioned the night market as a walk through Asia and covering the major regions: East, Southeast, South and the Middle East. We had 36 vendors selling food and retail items representing most of the countries in Asia and a beer garden. On Friday night, we had a Bollywood dance-along led by our member Monsoon Dance, and on Saturday evening, crowds were wowed by the K-Pop dancers KDC.
Thank you to Austin Code Department for sponsoring, Capital Metro for providing free day passes, Walnut Creek and McBee elementary schools for opening their parking lots, Austin Infiniti for shuttling folks from the schools to the event, and our many volunteers who helped direct traffic, set up tables and pick up trash. District 4 Council Member Greg Casar and his staff stopped by to proclaim March 22 and 23 as Asian Eats Night Market Night days. Thank you to the estimated 18,000 people who came out and patronized the local businesses who participated as vendors. We think you can tell from the pictures below that fun was had by everyone.
